Turkish is the 13th most spoken language in the world. It is spoken by approximately 85 million people worldwide, primarily in Turkey but also in Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, and other countries with significant Turkish communities. It is the official language of Turkey and Northern Cyprus, and it is one of the two official languages in Cyprus.
Turkish is a member of the Turkic language family. As such, Turkish shares many similarities with other languages, including Azerbaijani, Uzbek, and Turkmen. Over time, Turkish has undergone significant changes, including the adoption of the Arabic script in the 8th century and the switch to the Latin alphabet in the 20th century.

Turkish is the 10th most used language on Steam as of February 2023. This is 1.6% of the users. Despite the years of English education, most Turkish people are not able to speak English at a fluent level. Only about 17% of Turkish people can speak English. As reported by the English Proficiency Index, Turkey ranks 69th among the top 100 English-speaking countries in the world in 2020.
According to the Turkey Game Market Report 2021, by Gaming in Turkey, hyper-casual and casual games were trending, as in previous years. However, hardcore gamers preferred Battle Royale, FPS (first person shooters), Strategy, and MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) genres.
According to Newzoo’s revenue estimates for 2021, Turkey is ranked as the 21st largest market in the world in terms of game revenue ($1.2 billion). Moreover, the total number of players in Turkey increased from 36 million to 41 million in 2021. As for Cyprus, according to data provided by Statista, it has a modest revenue of around $17 million, since its pupation consists of barely 1.25 million.
As in most regions, the fastest-growing sector is mobile gaming. Mobile game revenue accounted for half of the total revenue in 2021. While mobile game revenue was $620 million in 2021, it was at the level of $450 million the previous year. The Turkey Game Market Report 2021 revealed thar 78% of adults play mobile games. It is noticeable that 46% of gamers play more than 10 hours per week on their phone.
